鼠列十二生肖之首，屬子。它與人類生活密切相關，從古代《詩經》中的民歌《碩鼠》，到現在的童謠“小老鼠，上燈臺”，都離不開它的身影。從民俗文化角度看，鼠是具有無比靈性、聰慧神秘的小動物。幾千年前，我國民間認為鼠能通靈，就把它列入“四大家”、“五大門”的動物原始崇拜，對其有獨特的敬畏。相傳鼠有創世奇功，天地未開之時，是它咬破天地泄露陰陽之氣，萬物才得以生發。鼠借騎牛之機奪得十二生肖之首，被稱為聰明靈活、機敏善變的代表。鼠因繁殖力、生命力強，被視為家業興旺、繁盛不衰的象征。鼠通“數”，常與錢搭配為“數錢”，有財源滾滾、招財進寶的吉祥寓意。
  中國文聯副主席、中國民間文藝家協會主席、山東省文聯主席、山東工藝美術學院院長潘魯生指出，如何進一步認識和發掘傳統的生肖文化意象，如何在流動不息的生活里傳承和塑造生肖文化，如何以廣闊的視野、使世界各地更多的人們認識和傳播我們的優秀傳統文化，是藝術與設計的使命。可喜的是，越來越多高校師生和國內外設計師參與到設計中來，這些精彩的作品不僅增添了節日的氣息，也提供給我們生肖文化發展的新的樣本和路徑，其中的設計語言、文化內涵、民俗意義、生活視野等，能夠加深我們對于中華優秀傳統文化的認識、對傳統節日生活和設計文化的理解。
  本屆大賽共收到全國301所高校的參賽作品6753件，國內外著名設計師、漫畫家的特邀作品330件。參賽院校包括清華大學美術學院、西安美術學院、廣州美術學院、湖北美術學院、魯迅美術學院、四川美術學院、天津美術學院、吉林藝術學院、云南藝術學院、廣西藝術學院、南京藝術學院等全國知名設計院校,也包括同濟大學、南開大學、山東大學、四川大學、廣州大學、東北大學、湖北大學等高水平綜合類大學;國際特邀作品來自于美國、法國、英國、意大利、俄羅斯、加拿大等30個國家和地區。
  經過初審和終審專家認真嚴謹的評審,共評出獲獎作品348件。其中:生肖創意大獎空缺,金獎2件,銀獎6件,銅獎10件,優秀獎30件,入選獎300件。這些優秀作品以極其豐富的設計語言展示出“鼠”這一生肖形象的千姿百態:它們或勾勒神韻，或刻畫入微;或傳遞吉愿，或針砭時弊;或樸質淡雅，或濃墨重彩;或詼諧幽默，或發人深省......但無論那種形式，都有傳承、有創新、有發展，讓生肖鼠這一傳統文化形象彰顯出現代品格，為我們呈現出一場場視覺盛宴。這些作品背后凝結著每一位設計師的智慧與汗水。在此，感謝大家的熱情參與和傾力支持，一幅幅經典之作讓我們有欣喜、有觸動、有感悟，讓我們有力量為當今設計事業的發展共囊盛舉。
